Hi All You Stalinites!
A special thanks to Mrs. Marshall as she shared with us her travel experiences in Russia! Thank you also to RILEIGH who agreed to model the Burkha for us! Can you imagine wearing that in hot weather! Or ever????
Next week in class I will cover the chapter entitled “Stalin’s Terror”. You will learn about the many paranoid purges Stalin made during his 1924-1953 time as dictator.
Your job this week will be to read the next chapter entitled “Pact of Blood”. This chapter serves as a perfect introduction to World War II because it mentions Hitler’s takeover of Austria and Czechoslovakia and his pact with Stalin to take Poland. It also talks about Stalin’s war with Finland. There is much to learn in this chapter that will really help you as we plunge into World War II!!!! We will do a timeline of Hitler’s rise on day one of WWII but this chapter will be a good introduction. One of the most disturbing events of Stalin’s help in taking Poland was the NKVD’s murder of thousands of Polish Officers in the Katyn Forest. The Soviet Union denied knowledge of this slaughter until just recently. The video will highlight this. It is horrible but we must know about these things.
